Cody Stromberg has been named the Chief of Police for Herriman City after receiving approval from the City Council at its Wednesday evening meeting on May 14, 2026. Prior to this appointment, Stromberg served as the department’s deputy chief and as the interim chief following the retirement of former Chief Troy Carr.
Stromberg's history with the Herriman City Police Department dates back to its inception. He was one of the original four members of the department when it was first formed in 2018. Throughout his career, he has held numerous roles and has led multi-agency task forces across the Salt Lake County area. His professional training includes being a graduate of both the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and the F.B.I. National Academy. Additionally, he previously served as a board member for the Utah Law Enforcement Legislative Committee.
In addition to his professional duties, Stromberg is a longtime resident of Herriman, having lived in the community for more than 25 years. This long-term residency informs his perspective on the community he serves. He and his wife, Nicole, have been active in the area in various capacities. Their community involvement includes service on the Herriman Arts Council, multiple school community councils, and the Fort Herriman PRCA Rodeo Committee. Stromberg also serves as a varsity football coach at Herriman High School. The couple has four teenage children, including three who attend both Herriman and Mountain Ridge high schools, and they are parents to a Utah Army National Guard soldier.
Stromberg's experience includes managing high-pressure tactical situations. On November 20, 2022, Stromberg, acting as deputy chief, provided details regarding an incident where a resident fired shots at police and neighboring residences. During that incident, he noted that tactical units worked to evacuate residents from surrounding residences and that the department attempted to work with the individual's family and negotiators to provide alternatives.
Following the retirement of Chief Troy Carr on March 1, 2026, Stromberg assumed the role of interim chief. The City Council's decision to name him as the permanent chief follows a period where the city sought a leader to build upon the foundation of professionalism and service established by the department. The Herriman City Police Department, which Stromberg helped build from its first days, currently employs 55 officers and civilian staff members serving in disciplines such as patrol, investigations, SWAT, forensics, and community outreach.

Residents will see Stromberg leading the Herriman City Police Department in a permanent capacity. His long history as a local resident and his experience as one of the department's founding members are intended to help the organization maintain its focus on community-centered and data-driven solutions to public safety challenges.
