The Skyridge girls soccer team has earned an impressive win over the 6A defending champion on the road after starting the season with five straight losses, according to a Lehi Free Press report published August 24.
The Falcons broke into the win column by defeating Syracuse 4-3 on their home pitch. Skyridge took a 2-1 lead into halftime following goals from Lexi Blood and Lily Boren.
Syracuse, which won the 6A title last year, responded after the break to tie the game. Skyridge scored again in the 77th minute through Cambri Condie, assisted by Blood, and Boren scored her second goal in the 79th minute following an assist from Lydia Farnsworth to secure the victory.
Earlier in the preseason, Skyridge faced several difficult matchups. On August 14, Mountain View defeated Skyridge 3-2 in overtime. On August 18, the Falcons lost 5-1 to Davis. In that match, Condie scored the single goal for Skyridge with an assist from Bentley Knight.
Coach Jhoan Alvizo stated that the preseason games were played against quality teams and that the team saw progress in each game. He noted that while the Davis game was a setback, the team learned from it and saw everything come together in the final preseason match.
Skyridge has completed its pre-league schedule. The Falcons are scheduled to open Region 3 play on Tuesday, Sept. 1, against Lehi at 3:30 p.m., and will host American Fork on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 3:30 p.m.
