Funding Available for SUU Ideas That Bring People Together

Have an idea that could bring people together? SUU faculty, staff, and students can apply for funding to turn that idea into a campus or community experience that fosters collaboration.
"Some of the most meaningful learning happens when we encounter perspectives different from our own," said SUU President Mindy Benson. "We are excited to be part of this statewide effort to encourage curiosity, build understanding and develop the skills needed to work across differences. We look forward to seeing the creative ideas our Thunderbirds develop through this opportunity."
As part of the Utah Cooperation Cohort, SUU is joining public colleges and universities across Utah in a statewide effort to create opportunities for constructive engagement across differences. The initiative is a partnership among the Utah System of Higher Education, Interfaith America, and the University of Utah.
Funding requirements are intentionally broad and can support projects that bring people with different perspectives, experiences, or beliefs together around a shared interest, purpose, or challenge. Projects could include:
Campus events, activities, or speakers that encourage respectful dialogue and meaningful exchange
Student club and organization activities that create opportunities to engage with perspectives different from their own
Community service projects that bring diverse groups together around a shared purpose
Courses, workshops, or training experiences that help participants navigate disagreement and collaborate effectively
Other creative programs or activities that encourage curiosity, understanding and constructive engagement across differences.
Through the cohort's grant program, SUU has $20,000 available to support two or three projects, with individual proposals eligible for up to $7,000. Any SUU faculty member, staff member, or student may propose a project aligned with the goals of the grant program.

The priority deadline for project proposals is Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, with a final deadline of Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit proposals by the priority deadline.
