In a report published September 9, the ProvoREADS initiative announced its September theme, Discover Your Reading Path. The program aims to encourage students to explore books, topics, and stories that spark curiosity to foster a lifelong interest in reading.
The initiative suggests that when children are given the opportunity to choose books they enjoy, reading becomes something they look forward to rather than just an assignment. To support this, families are encouraged to visit the Provo City Library or school libraries to browse new sections, ask librarians for recommendations, try new genres, or obtain library cards.
Looking ahead, the Utah Reads Statewide Read-A-Thon is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Governor Spencer Cox and First Lady Abby Cox will participate in the event, which includes a dedicated hour for reading and celebrating literacy. Students and employees of the Provo City School District are scheduled to participate from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. as part of the statewide event.
