A 5lar 5-year-old bicyclist died after being involved in a crash with a vehicle in Sandy on Wednesday night, according to officials.
The bicyclist was identified as Melvin Barnes. He was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.
The collision occurred on July 8 near the intersection of 400 East and 10600 South.
Officials stated that the driver involved in the crash is a 27-year-old woman, though her identity has not been released.
The Sandy City Police Department requested that the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office assume responsibility for the investigation due to a conflict of interest.
The investigation remains active and no further information has been made available. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office extended condolences to the family and loved ones of Barnes.
