PLAIN CITY, Utah — Plain City Elementary School will host a Parent Literacy Night on Thursday, November 12, to equip families with strategies for supporting reading development at home. The event is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the school campus.
The event is part of the Weber School District’s commitment to student achievement and early literacy. It aims to provide actionable steps for parents to use during home study time, covering topics such as letter names, sounds, phonics, and decoding techniques.
Attendees will also explore strategies for fluency and comprehension to help boost reading speed and expression. Additionally, the night will include a session for questions and answers regarding Individual Reading Plans (IRP) to clarify personal reading goals and support plans for students.
The school is partnering with West Weber Communities That Care to connect families with community wrap-around support resources. School leaders stated that the goal is to build bridges between the classroom and home to help students thrive by increasing parental confidence in supporting phonics, fluency, and comprehension.
The event is intended for all families, ranging from those supporting preschoolers to those assisting sixth graders. Plain City Elementary encourages families to attend wearing school colors.
