The Duchesne County Commission held a combined working and regular session on August 10, 2026, to address several county business matters, according to meeting minutes published August 14.
During the meeting, Public Works Director Mike Casper provided updates on ongoing projects, noting that work on Upper Red Creek (CR 1) was expected to be completed during the week of the meeting. Casper also reported on efforts regarding a road realignment project involving building purchases in Roosevelt.
Emergency Management Director Josh Phillips provided updates on local fire activity, stating the Little Horse Fire reached 100% containment after burning 119 acres. He noted that the Kings Peak fire remains active and is being closely monitored by crews.
The commission also addressed administrative and personnel matters. Commissioners appointed Daniel Roberts and Dustin Simpson to the Hanna Water & Sewer Improvement District to serve until the 2027 election. Additionally, the commission voted to adopt the new IRS mileage reimbursement rate of 0.76 and approved payroll for the period ending August 1, 2026.
The session included a public hearing regarding Ordinance 26-432, which proposes amendments to the Duchesne County Code concerning appeal authority and variance requirements. The ordinance was scheduled for consideration at a subsequent commission meeting.
