Weber High senior Erik Bryant won the individual title at the City-County Cross Country Championship on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, at the Weber County Fairgrounds. His performance helped lead Weber High to a team victory over rival Fremont during the event held in Harrisville.
Bryant outpaced runner-up Daxton Coombs of West Field and Beau Jenkins of Fremont during the race. This victory follows a season where Bryant has finished in the top 10 or better in five of his six regular-season races, including a win at the Freber Invitational in Plain City. He previously finished 44th at the 6A state championships last year.
Weber High placed six runners within the top 25 during the championship. Joining Bryant in the top 10 were senior Coen Beus, who finished 7th with a time of 16:44.68, and sophomore James Booth, who finished 10th with a time of 16:55.67. Other Weber runners in the top 25 included Kaiden Adamson, Maisen Johnson, and Beckett Wilkinson.
Bryant has focused on managing lower back tightness and maintaining disciplined posture to improve his racing. He stated that maintaining a neutral position has helped unlock his potential. Bryant, who plans to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after high school, has also recently contacted Weber State regarding his future.
The 6A state cross-country championships are scheduled for Oct. 27-28 at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. Weber High is aiming for a top 5 finish at the upcoming state meet, seeking their first boys cross-country state title since 1986.
