The Utah Transit Authority is inviting public input on a proposed partial budget for the first half of 2027, according to a September 29 report. The $504 million tentative budget includes potential service upgrades for the Ogden area and marks a shift in how the agency manages its fiscal timeline.
UTA Public Relations Coordinator Thomas Lee stated that the proposed budget covers the period from January through June 2027. This six-month window is necessary because the agency is transitioning from a calendar-year budget to one that aligns with the State of Utah’s fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2027.
One major component of the proposal is an Ogden service package mobilization. If the plan is approved, these changes and additions would go into effect in April 2028 as part of UTA’s Spring Change Day. According to Lee, the package aims to improve connectivity to the broader UTA transit system and access to key Ogden destinations by modifying existing bus routes, adding a new On Demand Zone, and supporting the construction of a new Mt. Ogden Facility.
The agency is also prioritizing sustainability and regional expansion in the proposal. The budget supports continued preparation for several new services and projects based on regional needs and available revenue.
A key project mentioned is the FrontRunner 2X plan, a partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation. This initiative involves adding 11 sections of double-tracking to increase the capacity, frequency, and reliability of the service. While the project entered the engineering phase in August, construction is tentatively expected to begin next year.
The proposed service updates remain subject to change based on the feedback received from the public and subsequent adjustments to the final service plan.
The public comment period for the partial 2027 tentative budget is open through October 26. Community members can review the financial plan and provide input by visiting https://www.rideuta.com/About-UTA/Utah-Transit-Authority-Budget.
