Ogden High School band director Stanley Renda has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Ogden School District following an arrest for domestic violence, according to a September 2 report.
District officials clarified on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, that Renda is on paid administrative leave, correcting an earlier report that his employment had been terminated.
According to Ogden School District Director of Communications Jer Bates, Renda was placed on leave on Wednesday. Bates stated that the district cannot provide further details due to state laws protecting confidential personnel information.
Court documents indicate Renda was arrested on a Saturday following an incident the previous evening. An affidavit of probable cause stated that officers responded to a family disturbance at an Ogden residence on a Friday evening. The affidavit detailed an altercation where Renda allegedly dragged a victim from a shower by her hair and applied pressure that prevented her from breathing. The victim reported being struck in the face several times during the struggle. The affidavit noted that Renda attempted to clean blood from the scene prior to the arrival of officers, and that two children were in an adjacent room.
Renda faces charges including one count of aggravated assault that produces loss of consciousness, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child involving strangulation or choking, and one count of obstruction of justice.
The Ogden School District stated it is aware of the legal matters involving Renda but noted there is no information indicating that students, school activities, or school-related conduct were involved.
District and school leaders have implemented staffing adjustments to minimize disruptions to rehearsals, performances, and competitions. Existing band staff and district music leaders are currently assuming expanded responsibilities while the district works to fill the position.
