1. Welcome
Mayor Tyler Shepherd called the Public Hearing to order at 6:54pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Town
Hall on Main Street in Levan, Utah.
2. Purpose Of Hearing
The Chair read the public notice into the record, stating that the Mayor and members of the Levan Town
Council were convening a public hearing to receive input from the public with respect to the proposed 2026–
2027 budget, and, if needed, amendments to the 2025–2026 budget. All members of the public were noted as
invited to attend and participate.
3. Proposed Budget
The Chair opened the floor for public comment on the proposed budget. A brief explanation of the budget
document was offered, noting that fund codes beginning with "10" represent the General Fund, while separate
enterprise funds cover utilities such as water. The document presented included both the current 2026 budget
and the proposed 2027 revised figures side by side for comparison. A copy of the budget document was
distributed to those in attendance who wished to review it.
One informal point of interest was raised regarding the Town's wildfire protection expenditure, with a
participant sharing that Levan currently has zero dollars in expenditure for wildfire protection, attributing this to
the town's surrounding landscape of alfalfa fields. It was noted that residents pay into a fire district tax
separately, which is handled through an interlocal agreement at approximately three cents per share from the
prior year.
No members of the public offered formal comment on the proposed budget.
4. Budget Amendments
No public comment was received regarding proposed budget amendments. It was noted that the body was
required to remain in the public hearing for a minimum of ten minutes before proceeding.
During the waiting period, discussion briefly turned to scheduling matters, specifically regarding the July town
council meeting conflicting with the local stampede event. It was suggested that the meeting date could be
moved to a Tuesday prior to the event, provided proper public notice was given. It was noted that the Planning
Commission meets on the first Wednesday of each month, which would be July 1st, and that the regular council
meeting could be rescheduled accordingly with adequate notice.
5. Adjourn
A vote to adjourn was called. The motion was made by Ray Evans, seconded by Brady Taylor. All in favor.
