The Lehi Pioneers girls volleyball team split its recent week of play, recording a 3-1 victory over Davis on Thursday, Sept. 3, followed by a 3-0 loss to undefeated Lone Peak on Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to a September 15 report.
The Pioneers moved to a 6-2 season record following the two matches. During the victory against Davis, Lehi overcame an initial set loss of 17-25 to win the next three sets 26-24, 25-21, and 25-12. Junior outside hitter Aliya Shewell led the comeback with 16 kills, three aces, eight digs, and 22 serve-receives. Sophomore middle blocker Laken Bell contributed 15 kills, four aces, three block-assists, and 15 digs, while junior middle blocker Lucy Lowe recorded 12 kills and three block-assists. Sophomore setter Paisley Brems recorded 47 assists and four aces.
In the match against Lone Peak, the Knights won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-11. Head coach Alise Bowles noted that the team struggled with 34 unforced errors, citing passing and serving issues as factors in the loss. Despite the defeat, Shewell recorded nine kills and seven digs, Bell added five kills and 24 serve-receives, and Aftyn Hurst recorded nine digs and 18 serve-receives.
Lehi has managed early-season injuries, including a concussion that sidelined junior Aftyn Hurst, who was being replaced in the libero role by sophomore Isabel Garcia. Coach Bowles stated that several injured players have been cleared to return for upcoming region play. The Pioneers are scheduled to play American Fork on Thursday, Sept. 17, and Skyridge on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
