The Salt Lake City Council has scheduled a formal meeting for Sept. 15, 2026, to discuss various municipal matters, according to a notice posted to the Utah Public Notice Website.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person attendance at the City & County Building and online participation.
The agenda includes several public hearings regarding grant applications for the Salt Lake City Police Department. These applications include a request for a U.S. Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program Grant to fund up to 75% of salaries and benefits for 12 entry-level officers over three years. The Council will also consider a grant application to the Department of Workforce Services to expand the Project Connect program and fund four new full-time positions. Additionally, the Council will hear comments on a grant from the Utah Department of Public Safety to fund 12 LiDAR units for traffic enforcement.
Zoning and land use items on the agenda include a proposal to amend the zoning of properties near 1990 and 2002 South 500 East to allow for the construction of 22 townhomes. The Council will also consider ordinances to vacate portions of City-owned alleys near 2553 South Chadwick Street and approximately 750 South Main Street.
Other items include a potential amendment to clarify that non-residential land uses are subject to a maximum daily water consumption of 200,000 gallons per day. The Council will also consider an administrative organization amendment regarding the relocation of the Engineering Division and the renaming of the Compliance Division to Urban Services.
The meeting will also involve several board appointments, including candidates for the Administrative Appeals Officer and the Library Board. The agenda concludes with provisions for public comment on City business not scheduled for a formal hearing.
