A one-acre brush fire in Summit County was stopped after causing disruptions to the Union Pacific railroad and traffic on Interstate 80. Crews were called to the scene near milemarker 174 on I-80 around 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday.
The North Summit Fire Service District, alongside the Morgan County Fire Department, South Summit Fire District, and Park City Fire District, worked to safely extinguish the fire.
During the response, westbound lanes of I-80 were reduced to a single lane, and railroad traffic was temporarily stopped. The North Summit Fire Service District stated that the fire was fully contained due to the coordinated efforts of all involved agencies. Since the incident, railroad traffic has resumed normal operations and I-80 lane restrictions have been lifted.
While details regarding the cause of the brush fire were not immediately available, fire officials noted that conditions remain hot, dry, and windy. The fire service district requested that the public help prevent wildfires by avoiding activities that could spark a fire and reporting any signs of smoke immediately.
