The Cedar High School girls soccer team secured a 3-0 shutout victory against Dixie on September 15 at Walt Brooks Stadium. Cedar overcame the challenges of playing on artificial turf to claim the road win.
Junior goalkeeper Devyn Wood recorded a clean sheet for the Reds, while three different players contributed goals to the victory. Sophomore TynzLee Nielsen scored from inside the box, followed by goals from senior forward Kyla Johnson and Brinklee Arehart. Cedar coach Scott Kamachi noted that the team's ability to play on turf is aided by many players having experience in club soccer.
In other Region 9 action on September 17, Desert Hills defeated Crimson Cliffs at Thunder Field. Junior Ellie Christian scored the decisive goal on a rebound from a freshman Reese Nixon effort. Freshman goalkeeper Ellee Staheli provided several key stops to help the Thunder maintain the shutout.
Hurricane also secured a victory, defeating Dixie 1-0. Senior Elle Jenson scored the game's only goal following an assist from junior McKenzie Dominguez. Junior goalkeeper Rylee Tibbitts earned a clean sheet in the match.
Pine View also recorded an upset with a 2-1 win over Snow Canyon. Freshman Avery Durst scored both goals for the Panthers, assisted by sophomore Olivia Winkle. Senior goalkeeper Sylvia Seegmiller made 20 saves to secure the win for Pine View.
As of September 18, Region 9 standings reflect the recent results, with Crimson Cliffs holding a 7-1 record and Desert Hills at 6-2.
