Southern Utah University is highlighting a network of faculty and staff members who share the experience of being first generation college students. These individuals have agreed to serve as mentors for any first generation students at the university.
Program goals and scope
The initiative aims to support first generation students by connecting them with campus professionals who understand their background. The list of available mentors includes various roles across several departments, such as Library and Information Science, Student Affairs, and Career and Professional Development.
List of participating mentors
Available mentors include Tammy Buehler, an Assistant Professor in Library and Information Science; Heather Garcia, Director of Development Mid-level Giving; and Caitlin Kime, an Associate Professor in Library and Information Science. Also participating are Heather Jones from Management and Hotel, Resort, & Hospitality Management, and Deena Marchal, the Unit Business Manager for the College of Humanities & Social Sciences.

Other faculty and staff members offering mentorship include Magnum Morgan, a Staff Counselor in Counseling & Psychological Services; Toni Sage, Executive Director of Academic Success; Brandon Street, Director of Career Development; and Ashleigh Zimmerman, Executive Director of Belonging & Engagement in Student Affairs.
