A Layton City police officer fired on a knife-wielding suspect during a domestic incident early Wednesday morning, according to a report published October 28.
Police were summoned to a residence around 12:49 a.m. Wednesday after a woman reported a domestic dispute involving her ex-boyfriend.
The woman informed dispatchers that her ex-boyfriend had armed himself with a knife and expressed concern that he intended to stab responding officers, a statement from the Layton City Police Department Facebook page noted.
A Layton Police officer arrived at the scene and was approached by the armed individual while exiting a patrol vehicle. The officer retreated and issued commands for the individual to drop the knife, but the individual failed to comply, resulting in the officer discharging a firearm and striking the individual.
Additional Layton officers arrived to provide medical aid before the duty was handed off to the Layton Fire Department. The suspect, identified as a 22-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
A full identification of the 22-year-old male has not been released at this time.
The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave following department procedures while an investigation occurs. The Davis County Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol Team is currently investigating the incident.
An investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing.
