BYU men's basketball head coach Kevin Young announced Friday that Brandon Dunson and Jordan Brady have been promoted to new roles ahead of the 2026-27 season, according to a Oct. 5 statement.
Dunson will serve as an associate head coach, while Brady has added assistant coach to his title while continuing to serve as the Director of Player Development.
Young stated that both Dunson and Brady have been instrumental to the program since his arrival and carry heavy loads regarding on-court coaching and behind-the-scenes efforts.
Both men were part of the original staff that helped BYU advance to the NCAA Tournament twice in two seasons. During Dunson's first season on staff, the Cougars reached the Sweet 16 for the third time in program history, following a regular season that included wins over No. 10 Iowa State, No. 19 Arizona, and No. 23 Kansas. The postseason run included victories over VCU and No. 13 Wisconsin before a loss to Alabama in Newark, N.J.
The staff promotions follow notable player development successes. Dunson has helped prepare players for the NBA, with BYU becoming one of only five schools in Big 12 history to produce lottery picks in consecutive drafts. This includes Egor Dëmin, selected 8th overall by the Brooklyn Nets in 2025, and AJ Dybantsa, the first overall pick in the 2026 Draft by the Washington Wizards.
Brady, a Riverton native, helped develop Richie Saunders, who was selected 32nd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the summer draft. Saunders was named the league's Most Improved Player as a junior after averaging 16.5 points per game.
Additionally, the program welcomes seven new graduate assistants: Tre Risk, Tai Walters-Whitaker, Jamison Kay, Colin Donahue, Joe Welch, Koa Baker, and Ammon Garrison.
Before arriving in Provo, Dunson spent two seasons at Stanford. Brady previously served as the head coach of the NBA G League's Wisconsin Herd from 2017-19 and has held assistant roles for five different G League organizations.
The Cougars are scheduled to open the 2026-27 campaign on Monday, Nov. 2, against Ohio State at the Delta Center.
