During the April 15, 2026, meeting, the Canyon Crest Elementary School Community Council reviewed previous minutes and addressed several school initiatives. The council discussed efforts to continue hiring interventionists and strategies to increase school visibility to help boost enrollment.
A motion regarding these topics was moved by Rachel Husberg and seconded by Kate Patterson, receiving a unanimous vote.
The council approved the School Improvement Plan (SIP) goals with a motion from Shane Wright and a second from Melvin Rodriguez. The approved goals include increasing proficiency on RISE assessments by 3% across three subject areas: ELA, math, and science.
Specific academic subgoals were established for English Language Arts, focusing on students reaching benchmarks in Acadience Reading and NWEA assessments. Math goals include targets for K-3 students to achieve growth and specific objectives for the lowest 25 percent of students as measured by the school report card. A new science goal was added, with a focus on NWEA growth for students in grades 4-6.
The meeting also addressed upcoming community engagements. A community meeting was scheduled for April 16, 2026, at 6:00pm, which included a survey regarding criteria for school closure. Additionally, the council noted a Kindergarten Round-up scheduled for April 17 at 2:00pm.
Other agenda items included discussing teacher and staff retention, reviewing science goals taught by teachers or DLI target language teachers, and planning for internet safety programming in the next school year.
The council plans to meet again on May 20. Action items tied to the newly approved goals and subgoals are scheduled to be reviewed for approval in May.
