The Board of Education approved a change to the current school year calendar during its regular board meeting on August 25. The modification shifts the last day of school to May 26, with graduations scheduled for the two days prior.
The change request was made because state tournaments for track and field, boys soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and tennis conflicted with graduations originally scheduled for May 18 and 19. Keeping the original dates would have impacted a large group of seniors.
The modified calendar also adds days off to compensate for the extension of the school year. Two days were added to the beginning of winter break, and an extra day was added to fall break, moving that day to October 20 to coincide with SUU's fall break. Additionally, a Friday off was added in April.
