Murray City School District held a groundbreaking ceremony on the Murray High School campus for the $13 million Healthcare Academy APEX Center. The project, funded by a grant from the Utah State Board of Education, aims to bridge secondary education with the healthcare industry.
Developed through partnerships with Intermountain Health, Salt Lake Tech (Salt Lake Community College), and Talent Ready Utah, the 11,500-square-foot facility will include four specialized classrooms and four simulation labs. The center is located across from Intermountain Medical Center (IMED) to provide students with access to clinical mentorships, credentialing opportunities, and post-secondary pathways.
The Academy will offer three core tracks: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Behavioral Health Assistant, and Radiology Technician Assistant. The radiology track is a national first for high school students, while the behavioral health track is among the earliest secondary offerings in the state. These disciplines address regional workforce shortages identified by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
Superintendent Jennifer Covington stated that the facility provides a physical bridge to careers and gives students a head start toward healthcare professions and college degrees.
Construction for the facility began in 2026, with the doors scheduled to open in Summer 2027 to welcome the inaugural cohort.
