True freshman Legend Glasker wastes no time making his mark on BYU offense

Legend Glasker didn't need long to introduce himself to BYU fans.Less than two minutes into his first collegiate game Saturday night, the true freshman wide receiver powered through Utah Tech's defense for a 9-yard touchdown, giving the Cougars an early lead and giving the freshman his first taste of the spotlight at LaVell Edwards Stadium.But one touchdown wasn't enough.On the first play of the second quarter, Glasker caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Bear Bachmeier. Seven minutes later, he found the end zone again, securing a 33-yard pass to complete a three-touchdown night in BYU's home opener.“Coming into the game, I really wanted to score, so three was a surprise,” Glasker said. ”Before the game, I just said it was in God’s hands and that’s what he wanted to happen for me, so I am blessed.”

But, the road for Glasker began long before he stepped into LaVell Edwards Stadium.A three-star recruit from Lehi High School, Glasker finished his senior season with 676 receiving yards on 37 receptions and nine touchdowns. He also rushed for 206 yards on 11 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns.Now, he is making the jump to college football alongside familiar faces.Former high school teammate Devaughn Eka also made his mark, scoring a rushing touchdown in the Cougars’ 63-7 victory over Utah Tech.The two freshmen are now teammates again, this time at BYU, where they are part of a young group of players already making an impact.Five of BYU’s nine touchdowns were scored by true freshmen, with Glasker accounting for three and Eka and Journee Tonga each adding one.“I told you guys, don’t worry about the receiver role,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said of the freshman group. “They are new guys. They are not household names, but you will get used to them. … We have a lot of future stars.”

BYU’s offense gained a total of 213 receiving yards and 308 rushing yards.For Glasker, his three-touchdown performance was his first opportunity to show BYU fans what he can become.“The coaches and the players bought into me a lot and they trust me,” said Legend “I feel like when they trust me I can just really go out there and do what I do. With their trust, I feel like I can do anything.”BYU looks forward to its Big 12 matchup against the University of Arizona Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
