Utah Valley University President Astrid S. Tuminez, Utah Governor Spencer Cox, and executives from NVIDIA recently signed a three-year agreement to provide extensive resources for training UVU students, faculty, and staff in applied AI.
The agreement follows UVU's recent announcements regarding its new Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute, an applied AI apprenticeship program, and a master’s degree in applied artificial intelligence.
The partnership is part of a broader collaboration involving Utah’s other institutes of higher education and government offices. Designed by the state of Utah and NVIDIA, the initiative seeks to connect universities, community colleges, and adult education programs to drive economic growth and workforce training in AI throughout the state.
A primary component of the program includes the certification of UVU faculty through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute University Ambassador Program. This provides access to workshops, training materials, advanced AI tools, and cloud computing platforms. Faculty will also receive instruction in data science and accelerated computing.
The initiative is intended to benefit both new graduates and workers looking to upskill, creating hands-on internships and apprenticeships to bridge the gap between education and industry needs.
UVU anticipates this collaboration will play a role in its Valley Forge Innovation District located in Vineyard, Utah. The three-year agreement is a voluntary collaboration where parties share expertise and resources without exchanging funds, focusing on advancing AI innovation while maintaining confidentiality and intellectual property protections.
