St. Mary's has announced its ongoing commitment to serving the most vulnerable members of the Wasatch Back community by addressing critical needs such as housing and financial assistance. Operating with a housing-first principle, the organization aims to provide stability for those facing challenges in a high cost-of-living area.
Maria Villar, a long time parishioner, serves as the Director of Charity following her appointment in early January.
The organization's charitable efforts include providing housing and financial assistance, food, clothing, diapers, toys, car seats, cribs, and tutoring. St. Mary's works closely with several community partners to address these needs.
Jen O’Brien, Executive Director of the Summit County Clubhouse, noted that the charity assists community members including healthcare workers, pharmacy technicians, and resort workers who may face homelessness due to local living costs. O'Brien stated that Maria Villar is a primary contact for addressing housing crises.
Additionally, Katherine Aguilera, Associate Director at Peace House, described the partnership with St. Mary's as life-changing and life-saving, particularly regarding creative solutions for housing rentals and accommodations for survivors.
Miriam Garcia, Director of Education at Holy Cross Ministries, indicated that she refers families struggling with basic needs to the Director of Charity. The program also received a recent grant from the Park City Community Foundation to support its Charitable Housing Assistance program.
Other community partners involved with St. Mary's include Catholic Community Services, People's Health Clinic, and the Wasatch Immigration Project, among others.
