In an effort to provide more housing options for married students, BYU is tearing down 9 existing Wymount Terrace buildings and replacing them with 11 updated ones. The on-campus housing area has housed students since 1962. BYU media relations manager Todd Hollingshead detailed the improvements the project will make in a statement.“The new buildings will include improved plumbing, electrical systems and windows,” he said. “Each apartment will be equipped with central air conditioning, garbage disposals and washer and dryer hookups.”

Currently, campus laundromats are located in central buildings around the complex. The new Wymount buildings will give students the option to have their own washer and dryer installed in their apartment.Updates will also include better infrastructure for internet, student accessibility features and safety improvements.“Family Housing expects families will move into the new apartment buildings in 2028,” Hollingshead said.BYU student Ryann Kaiser has lived at Wymount Terrace for over three years, and the construction is taking place across the street from her current apartment.“I think it'd be great for married couples and young families to have an option that is new and improved,” Kaiser said. “I would have absolutely loved to live there.”Given the ongoing demand for student housing, a waitlist will be used to determine who will occupy the new buildings. Kaiser said the construction has brought in more cars and traffic, but she has also noticed BYU has tried to minimize the disruption to existing tenants."It's hard, obviously, with little babies if they're doing a ton of construction, but it hasn't been too bad," she said. "I feel like they've been managing the dust and the debris really well."

The rent for the new buildings has not been announced.“I think it's going to be such a great improvement,” Kaiser said. “BYU usually tries to keep rent as low as possible for families.”BYU hopes the new buildings will enhance living situations for student families.
