The Canyon Grove Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on August 15, 2024, to conduct several administrative approvals and review organizational growth. The session included the appointment of two new board members and updates regarding increasing student enrollment.
During the meeting, Steve Deverall and Matt Starley were approved as new board members following an introduction process that focused on their past experience and qualifications.
The board reviewed several educational and policy items, including the approval of LEA licenses for eight individuals, with six at CGA and two at SPA. The curriculum for the 7th and 8th grade teachers was described as multi-disciplinary.
New policies regarding student credit and dropout prevention were also approved as written. Additionally, the board voted to remain a non-participating LEA for Mental Health Screen Requirements, with an agreement to revisit the issue in the future to understand how the school addresses mental health issues.
Regarding finances, the board approved the high school fee schedule and spending plan. Discussion during this item included adding language to clarify when fees are due and using range-based language.
Kim provided an administrative update stating that enrollment is higher than ever, aided by new programs such as SPA and a micro high school. The Utah Fits All program currently has 58 overall students.
Discussions are ongoing regarding using Rockwell as a backup for additional seating. The meeting concluded with notes that staff numbers and energy have grown.
