Highland City closed the Angel's Gate Trailhead through the end of October according to a September 17 statement. The closure allows contractors to build a safer trail corridor through a new subdivision currently under construction nearby.
The trailhead is located at the end of Lighthouse Drive off Beacon Hill Boulevard, near the border of Highland, Alpine, and Draper. It serves as the upper access point for the Hog Hollow trail and the Hog Hollow Creek trail, which connect to the Corner Canyon trail system on Traverse Mountain. These routes are frequently used by hikers, mountain bikers, and local high school mountain bike teams.
Highland City announced the closure on its official X account on Thursday, Sept. 17, and advised trail users to plan alternate routes until the work is completed. While no specific reopening date was provided, the city indicated the work is expected to wrap up by the end of October.
Construction in the area has been ongoing for some time. Highland City first notified trail users about heavy machinery in the area in December 2025, when work began near the trailhead by Hog Hollow. At that time, officials stated that a bridge over a gas line easement would improve trail access and was anticipated to be finished by spring 2026.

Beacon Hill Park trailhead on Beacon Hill Boulevard, located about half a mile north of Westfield Road, which connects to the bottom of the Hog Hollow Creek trail.
Lower Hog Hollow access via a metal gate on the north side of Westfield Road, approximately 0.7 miles west of the stop sign where Westfield ends on 200 North in Alpine.
Fort Canyon Ranch trailhead, located about 3.9 miles from Angel's Gate by road, which offers an alternate eastern entry to the trail system.
