Real Salt Lake announced the acquisition of 20-year-old Canadian defender Luc de Fougerolles via loan from Fulham FC of the English Premier League. The agreement arrives at the close of the 2026 secondary window for Major League Soccer and extends through the 2026 calendar year, with an option to extend through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
Born in London, England, de Fougerolles is a centerback who made five appearances during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His 18 career senior caps for Canada include four starts during the tournament. He was previously named Canada’s 2025 Young Player of the Year.
Real Salt Lake Chief Soccer Officer Kurt Schmid stated that de Fougerolles' arrival will add to the team's back-line options. Schmid noted that the player's recent World Cup experience and time in the Fulham setup should allow him to make an immediate impact as the club pursues postseason success.
The defender's arrival marks the sixth external addition to the Real Salt Lake roster during this transfer window. He joins previous additions including Saba Lobjanidze, Colin Guske, Jason Shokalook, Taylor Booth, and Dušan Žagar.
Prior to his time with Fulham, de Fougerolles spent a year playing 30 matches on loan to the Belgian side FCV Dender. He also made 84 appearances as part of the Fulham youth setup between 2021 and 2024.
De Fougerolles expressed confidence in the move, stating that the style of play and the ambitions of Real Salt Lake would help him progress and assist the team. He mentioned that a conversation with manager Pablo Mastroeni regarding his ideas and the collective style of play was a significant factor in the decision.
