Weber State football has announced two upcoming home-and-home series against South Dakota State and Northern Iowa, featuring four games scheduled between the 2027 and 2029 seasons. The matchups will bring the Jackrabbits and the Panthers to Ogden and Cedar Falls as part of expanded nonconference and conference scheduling.
Upcoming South Dakota State Series
The series with South Dakota State will begin on Sept. 11, 2027, at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah, according to Weber State University Athletics. The Jackrabbits will then travel to Brookings, South Dakota, for the return game on Sept. 16, 2028, at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, South Dakota State University Athletics confirmed.
This matchup marks the first time the Wildcats and the Jackrabbits will meet in over 50 years. The two programs last played against one another in 1976 in Ogden. While the 2027 game will be the first meeting in decades, South Dakota State holds a 3-0 series lead over Weber State, according to South Dakota State University Athletics.
Northern Iowa Matchups Scheduled
The second announced series involves the University of Northern Iowa, with the two teams set to meet for a home-and-home matchup during the 2027 season. The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the final game of the 2027 regular season on Nov. 20, 2027, University of Northern Iowa Athletics announced.
Northern Iowa will then make the return trip to Ogden for the season opener of the 2029 season on Aug. 25, 2029. This will mark the third time the Panthers have traveled to Ogden, and the Wildcats are looking to improve on their 0-2 record in previous meetings in Ogden dating back to 1978 and 2019, University of Northern Iowa Athletics noted.
Recent Program History
The series against Northern Iowa follows recent matchups between the two programs. Weber State won its most recent meeting in Ogden in 2019 and secured a 34-17 victory in Cedar Falls in 2023, according to University of Northern Iowa Athletics.
In the 2027 season, Weber State's schedule will also include an opening home game against Montana on Aug. 28, 2027, and a game at BYU on Sept. 4, 2027, Weber State University Athletics stated. Both South Dakota State and Northern Iowa compete in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
SDSU 2027 Schedule Details
South Dakota State's 2027 nonconference slate will also include an Aug. 28 road game at Iowa State, a home game against St. Thomas on Sept. 4, and a home game against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 18, South Dakota State University Athletics reported.
The matchup against Southeastern Louisiana will conclude a home-and-home series that began with a 41-0 Jackrabbit road win in 2024, according to South Dakota State University Athletics.
Current Wildcats Status
The addition of these series comes as Weber State continues a successful season, having recently been ranked 18th in the FCS poll as of Nov. 2, 2026. The Wildcats also recently secured a 28-14 victory over UC Davis on Oct. 31, 2026, to reach six wins for the season.
