Boulder Town is seeking a new Zoning Administrator to fill an essential part-time position, according to a September 24 job announcement. The role involves enforcing and interpreting town zoning ordinances and related regulations for the community.
The position requires approximately 20 to 40 hours of work per month. The Zoning Administrator will be supervised by the Mayor, the Town Councilmember overseeing staff, and the Planning Commission Chair. In this capacity, the individual serves as the sole member of the Town’s Administrative Land Use Authority (ALUA), which is responsible for reviewing and approving subdivision applications.
Key responsibilities include reviewing applications, conducting site inspections, and providing technical assistance to the public, developers, and stakeholders. The role also involves managing a town email address with a three-business-day response standard, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports for planning commissions and other governing bodies. Additionally, the administrator may assist with other town operations during staff absences or for specific projects.
The town is looking for self-motivated individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills who can work both independently and collaboratively with town staff, advisory boards, and the public. While a high school diploma or equivalent is required, the town prefers candidates with a higher education degree in fields such as urban planning or public administration.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace is highly valued. Preferred experience includes work in zoning administration, planning, or code enforcement. The position is considered at-will employment, consistent with Utah Code §10-3-1105.
The duties for this role are explicitly defined in several sections of the Boulder Town Code of Ordinance, including Sections 153.044, 152.043, 153.171, 152.065, and 153.026. Compensation for the role is based on the town's established pay scale and will be discussed during the hiring process based on the candidate's experience.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a resume, and three professional references. While the position remains open until filled, the town requests that applications be submitted by Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to be considered for the first round of interviews. The Mayor will manage follow-up communication and interview scheduling.
