The Manti-La Sal National Forest announced that the Babylon Fire is 100% contained and all associated road and trail closures in the Monticello Ranger District have been rescinded. In a notice posted to the district's website, officials stated that all lands within the Monticello Ranger District are now open to the public.
While the area is open, visitors should be aware that smoke may still be visible in isolated interior pockets and Forest Service personnel continue to work throughout the area. Stage 2 fire restrictions remain in effect. Prohibited activities under these restrictions include campfires, charcoal grills, wood stoves, and smoking outdoors. Other prohibited items and actions include the use of chainsaws or internal combustion equipment for wood gathering, driving off designated routes, and the use of fireworks or explosives.
Allowed activities under Stage 2 restrictions include the use of gas or liquid-fueled stoves or grills with an on/off switch, provided there is 10 feet of cleared space. Smoking is permitted inside enclosed vehicles or buildings, and parking is allowed only in designated areas or on ground completely free of vegetation.
