The Lehi High School girls soccer team has moved to a 7-5 overall record after posting one win and three close losses in recent weeks, according to a September 8 report by Beky Beaton.
The Pioneers split their first two Region 3 contests, securing a victory over the Falcons but falling to the Knights in a shootout decided by a single goal.
In their Region 3 opener on Sept. 1, Lehi defeated Skyridge 2-0 at home. Ashley Gardner scored the first goal in the 13th minute following an assist from Tessa Richards, and Richards later set up Kajsa Sherman for a second goal. Siena Wells earned the shutout in goal, supported by defender Aly Badger and a three-back line.
Lehi's most recent match on Sept. 3 resulted in a 1-1 draw against Lone Peak, with the Knights winning the subsequent shootout 5-4. Ashley Gardner provided the Pioneers' early advantage with a free-kick goal. Although Siena Wells saved a penalty kick during the shootout, Lehi missed two attempts while the Knights converted all of theirs. The shootout participants for Lehi included Tessa Richards, Eiley Baker, Gardner, and Badger.
Earlier in the month, Lehi faced two losses. On Aug. 27, Davis defeated Lehi 3-1. Despite a goal from Ashley Gardner, Davis took advantage of two dead balls to build a lead. On Aug. 25, Weber defeated Lehi 3-2. Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Farnes played the full match as Lehi attempted to overcome an early two-goal deficit. Goals for the Pioneers in that contest were scored by Kayla Southwick and Liv Seitzinger.
Lehi is scheduled to play Corner Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 11, followed by a game against American Fork on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Both matches are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
