Unified Fire Authority crews battled two separate house fires occurring approximately 15 minutes apart early Wednesday. In both instances, firefighters arrived to find homes fully engulfed in flames, resulting in heavy damage to both structures.
The first incident was reported at roughly 12:25 a.m. at a residence near 13800 Pioneer Peak Circle in Herriman. Unified Fire Authority spokesperson Courtney Samuel stated that firefighters found the home fully involved, with flames visible from the garage and extending through the roof.
Crews launched an offensive attack and called for additional resources to the scene. The blaze was brought under control in just over one hour. While most structural damage was confined to the garage, the home also suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Samuel noted that all occupants had safely escaped before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the Herriman fire is currently under investigation.
About 15 minutes after the first report, crews were dispatched to a second house fire in Millcreek near 3500 S. 1100 East. Upon arrival, firefighters found this home also fully involved.
South Salt Lake City Battalion Chief Eric Sloan told Gephardt Daily that the residents were away from the home when they were alerted by a burglar alarm. After accessing a surveillance camera from their location, the residents realized the house was on fire. Sloan reported extensive damage to both the front and back of the residence.
The cause of the Millcreek fire also remains under investigation.
