Lehi High School administration announced the appointment of Ashley Behrend as the new head coach for the cheerleading program, according to a report published August 31.
Behrend brings seven years of experience as a cheer athlete across All Star, high school, and collegiate levels. She also has over four years of coaching experience, most recently working with teen athletes in the All Star cheer circuit.
In a letter released August 31, administration expressed confidence in Behrend's ability to lead the program and build a competitive culture. The administration stated that the department is committed to supporting her as she works toward a program centered on safety, respect, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
Behrend succeeds Jena Anderson, who resigned last month after leading the program for 10 years. Anderson was named the 5A Cheer Coach of the Year in 2023 and the 6A Cheer Coach of the Year in 2025.
The cheer program has seen significant success under recent leadership. In 2023, the Pioneers finished third in the 5A state competition and took first place in the All-Girl sideline/timeout dance category. Since joining the 6A ranks, the team has finished fourth at State in each of the past three seasons.
Since 2020, the program has produced 11 Utah Cheer Coaches Association All-State performers. Prior to UHSAA sanctioning competitive cheer, the teams were named 5A Co-ed Cheer State Champions in 2021 and 2022.
Matt Brousseau, the father of varsity cheerleader Emma Brousseau, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Lehi Cheer program. Emma Brousseau, a four-year participant, also shared her appreciation for Anderson's mentorship and dedication to the athletes.
