Recent weather in the Wasatch Back area has led to increased levels of naturally occurring organic materials in the Weber River, according to a notice posted to the city's website. This change follows the Rocky Canyon fire, which burned approximately 16,000 acres near East Canyon Reservoir.
The Weber River serves as the primary source of surface water for the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District (WBWCD) water treatment plants. Kaysville receives 100% of its drinking water supply from the WBWCD.
While water treatment plants are considered highly effective at removing organics, extreme levels in the river may cause a temporary, more pronounced organic smell or taste in the water being distributed. City and WBWCD staff continue to sample and monitor the water throughout the distribution systems to ensure it meets all State and Federal safe drinking water standards.
In addition to water concerns, paving notices were issued for 200 North. On September 3, crews were scheduled to place the final layer of pavement on the north side of 200 North from Fairfield Road to 750 East between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
During these operations, homes on the north side of 200 North will not have driveway access, and traffic will be shifted to the south side of the roadway. Side streets at 300 East, 400 East, 500 East, 600 East, and 700 East will be closed at 200 North. Additionally, no on-street parking is allowed on 200 North during the paving operations.
Previous paving work was scheduled for the north side of 200 North between 500 East and 750 East on August 31 and September 1. On September 2, crews were scheduled to place the first layer of pavement in that area between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., during which time driveways on the north side would not be accessible.
