Antelope Island State Park has provided updated information regarding park rules and regulations for visitors. The guidelines outline specific requirements for special events, wildlife interaction, and the use of various recreational equipment within the park boundaries.
Special Use Permits are required for activities outside normal park operations or those intended for commercial gain, such as weddings, guided tours, and professional photography workshops. There is a $10 application fee for these permits, though additional fees may apply and liability insurance might be necessary. Notably, no special use permits will be initiated between September 15th and November 15th to allow for preparations for the Annual Bison Roundup.
Regarding wildlife, visitors are prohibited from feeding, touching, or intentionally disturbing any animals. Approaching bison is specifically noted as potentially dangerous. The park also prohibits domestic farm animals, such as goats, sheep, llamas, and alpacas, to prevent the spread of disease to local wildlife.
Drone usage is restricted from March through November, with permits only being available from December through February. Similarly, metal detecting is permitted by permit only.
For those visiting with pets, dogs must be kept on a six-foot leash and owners are responsible for waste disposal. Service animals are the only animals allowed in public buildings.
Recreational options include mountain biking on most non-motorized trails and swimming at Bridger Bay Beach. However, certain restrictions apply to fires; they are permitted only in designated campgrounds and are prohibited at any beach, Ladyfinger Campground, or Backcountry Campsites. Off-highway vehicles are not permitted on park roads or trails.
The Annual Bison Roundup continues to be a significant seasonal event involving the Push and the Working phases to manage the herd health and population. For those who have lost items, the park holds found objects for 90 days before they are discarded.
