The Board of Education approved a change to the current school year calendar during its regular board meeting on Aug. 25, according to a report published August 26.
Under the new schedule, the last day of school will be moved to May 26, with graduations held two days prior.
The calendar modification was requested because state tournaments for track and field, boys soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and tennis conflicted with graduations that were originally scheduled for May 18 and 19. The board noted that leaving the schedule as it was would have impacted a large group of seniors.
To compensate for the extension of the school year, the modified calendar adds several days off. These include two days added to the beginning of winter break and an extra day added to fall break, which was moved to Oct. 20 to coincide with SUU's fall break. Additionally, a Friday off was added in April.
