Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect at Fremont Indian State Park, meaning there are no open fires of any kind allowed. This prohibition includes fires within established fire pits, charcoal grills, pellet grills, and any other ash-producing fuel.
Properly shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable camp stoves with a shut-off valve may be used provided they are placed in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of flammable vegetation.
The Sam Stowe Campground remains open, though no fires of any kind are permitted due to the Stage 2 restrictions. Reservations for sites can be made from March 15 until November 15. All sites within Sam Stowe feature water, sewer, and power options including 20, 30, and 50 amps. Two cabins are open with year-round reservations available, and a pit house is open for reservations from April through October.
All sites except for the Group Site can be reserved four months in advance. The Sam Stowe Group Site is restricted to tents only and allows reservations up to 11 months in advance. This site includes a pavilion with tables, a camp stove, and a fire pit, and can accommodate up to 75 people and 8 vehicles.
In contrast, the Castle Rock Campground is closed until further notice. Officials noted that an update was scheduled for reassessment by July 6th. While the campground is closed, dry camping or self-contained setups are recommended, and water spigots remain available in the campground. No fires of any kind are allowed at this location either.
At the park's visitor center, museum exhibits are closed for renovations until further notice. However, the gift shop, visitor center, and restrooms remain open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Environmental conditions at the park show that Clear Creek water levels are very low, which has made fishing conditions area-specific. Typical July temperatures for the area average a high of 92 degrees and a low of 51 degrees.
