Utah State University Moab celebrated the completion of a new building at a new campus location on April 1, 2022. The new site was established to provide higher and technical education opportunities to the community after decades of discussion regarding a new campus in Moab.
To commemorate the new building, members of the greater Moab area community were invited to participate in a time capsule project. Participants submitted stories intended to provide a window into community life and share hopes for the future of Moab in the year 2072.
The contributions, which included some associated artifacts, were placed in a physical vessel buried during a ribbon cutting event. The burial site is located on the south side of the building and is marked by a plaque on the edge of the patio.
A digital version of the time capsule contents was shared with the public during June 2022. These digital files are intended to remain inaccessible for 50 years until the physical time capsule is retrieved and opened on April 1, 2072.
Included in the capsule collections are various documents such as letters from the Grand County School District, the Moab Charter School, and Helen M. Knight Elementary School, as well as contributions from the Episcopal Church of St Francis and the Grand County Faith Based Coalition.
