The Ballard City Council held a meeting on August 4, 2026, to address several community matters, including infrastructure updates and public safety discussions, according to meeting minutes published August 12.
During the meeting, the Council postponed a Conditional Use Permit for SM Energy's Big Daddy Pad pending the completion of the Planning Commission process. Al Kettle reported that the SM Energy well pad and a separate frac pad for remote fracking operations were discussed during a Planning and Zoning meeting.
Regarding infrastructure, Jeff Baker of Jones & DeMille reported that Perco Rock is scheduled to begin construction on the 1000 South project, which includes site clearing and stormwater protection. Baker also noted that the Ballard gun range remains closed, with a potential reopening anticipated by late August or early September.
The Council addressed speeding concerns on 1000 North. Council Member Steve Secrest noted that the sheriff's office will provide pricing for a radar speed-display sign, which has been effective in reducing speeding. The Council is considering installing such a sign, increasing patrol coverage, or using both methods. The sheriff's office will also provide cost estimates for adding a part-time or full-time officer.
Other reports included updates from the Uintah County Commissioner regarding a public hearing for the Council Form of Government scheduled for Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ballard City Office. Additionally, Mayor Nile Mathisen reported that weed abatement letters were sent and progress has been made on weed removal at affected properties.
