Mapleton City hosted a backpacking program for women designed to build skills and confidence in the outdoors. According to a notice on the city's website, the program was aimed at women 18 years of age or older, regardless of their prior experience level.
The seven-week program included instructional sessions on Tuesday nights and related activities on Thursday nights. Topics covered during the course included the 10 essentials, packing tips, mindfulness, mental health, and emotional wellness. Participants also engaged in activities such as scavenger hunts, trail walks, and gear fitting.
Instructional sessions were held at the Mapleton City Hall located at 125 W 400 N. The program concluded with an overnight camping trip, with the specific location determined by the class.
The program required participants to provide a doctor-approved note prior to the first hike. Space for the program was limited to 12 applicants and carried a cost of $175.
