Handle, Matilda, and The Nelson Cottage by High West have been named MICHELIN Recommended in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Southwest. This recognition marks a milestone for the Park City restaurant community.
The first Southwest edition of the Guide covers Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. Jennifer Wesselhoff, president and CEO of the Park City Chamber & Visitors Bureau, stated that the recognition is an extraordinary moment for the community, noting that the distinctions reflect the creativity, talent, and commitment to quality within the local dining scene.
Handle, located at Park City’s Gateway Center, was opened in 2014 by chef and co-owner Briar Handly. The restaurant features a seasonal menu focused on local and regional ingredients. The success of Handle led to the opening of HSL in Salt Lake City in 2016.
Matilda is a neighborhood restaurant designed for both locals and visitors. The menu focuses on sharing seasonal plates, salads, and house-made sourdough pizza made with freshly milled flour.
The Nelson Cottage by High West is located on Park Avenue near the High West Saloon. Led by Chef de Cuisine Julia Sorroche, the restaurant offers a prix-fixe tasting menu with seasonal flavors and optional whiskey pairings.
MICHELIN Recommended status is awarded after anonymous inspectors evaluate restaurants based on criteria including ingredient quality, cooking techniques, flavor harmony, the chef's personality, and consistency. Park City's dining scene has grown to include everything from casual favorites to chef-led tasting menus highlighting Mountain West flavors.
