BYU and Utah football were represented on the Walter Camp Award Watch List, according to a report published August 17. The award is given annually to the top player in major college football.
BYU senior tailback LJ Martin was named to the list. During the previous season, Martin recorded 1,305 rushing yards and 12 scores for the Cougars, while also adding 36 receptions for 255 yards.
Utah senior quarterback Devon Dampier was also included on the watch list. Dampier completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions last season, and he also ran for 10 scores for the Utes in 2025.
BYU is scheduled to start its season on September 5 by hosting Utah Tech at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Utah was scheduled to host Idaho on August 27 at Rice-Eccles Stadium to begin its season.
BYU confirmed it will meet Oregon State on August 28, 2027, to accommodate a new standardized 14-week regular season calendar format. The Beavers hold a 6-5 all-time lead over the Cougars dating from 1955 to the present. The teams last played in 2012, when Oregon State defeated BYU 42-24 in Provo.
