Utah Valley University (UVU) has launched the Freshman Concurrent Enrollment Merit Scholarship, according to a report published August 25. The initiative aims to reward high school students who took college courses through the university's concurrent enrollment program.
The scholarship features two tiers of awards, ranging from $3,500 to $5,000 per year, depending on the number of UVU concurrent enrollment credits a student completed while in high school. These awards are renewable for up to four years, allowing qualifying students to receive as much as $20,000 over their college career.
Spencer Childs, Senior Director of Concurrent Enrollment, stated that the scholarship is the first at UVU built specifically to reward the effort of these students. He noted that students arriving on campus via concurrent enrollment have already proven themselves academically and are disciplined and prepared.
The scholarship structure is designed to encourage high school students to pursue college coursework earlier by offering higher tiers for those earning more credits. Because all UVU Concurrent Enrollment students are automatically admitted as UVU freshmen, students must submit an official high school transcript during their senior year by Feb. 1.
