Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect at Sand Hollow State Park, prohibiting all open fires of any kind. This includes fires within established fire pits, charcoal grills, pellet grills, and any other ash-producing fuel.
Properly shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable camp stoves with a shut-off valve are permitted, provided they are used in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of flammable vegetation.
In addition to the Stage 2 restrictions, fires are not permitted in any campgrounds. For those utilizing primitive beach camping, only propane fires and propane BBQs are allowed.
Regarding water activities, the main boat ramp is open and launching conditions are reported as good. However, officials remind visitors that refueling any vessel or watercraft while floating on the reservoir is prohibited to protect the county's drinking water source.
Fishing proclamations are available at the visitor center, and visitors should note that spearfishing is not permitted on Sand Hollow Reservoir.
Campgrounds remain open year-round, though reservations are highly recommended. Visitors must be inside the park before the front gate closes, as there are no after-hour accommodations for reentry.
Other park prohibitions include the use of fireworks, glass on sandy beaches or cliff jumping rocks, and the discharge of firearms near campsites, picnic areas, or within 600 feet of any building. Carving or etching into sandstone rocks is also a citable offense.
