The South Ogden City Council has scheduled a work session and a formal council meeting for May 5, 2026. The agenda includes significant discussions regarding the FY2027 tentative budget and a proposed increase in property taxes.
A work session is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at City Hall in the EOC. During this session, Mayor Russell Porter will lead a review of the council meeting agenda and discussions regarding the FY2027 tentative budget and the FY2027 property tax impact schedule. No action will be taken on items during this pre-council work session.
The formal council meeting will follow at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers. The meeting will feature an opening ceremony, including a pledge of allegiance by Council Member Stephens, and the recognition of Firefighter Corbin Hunt by Fire Chief Cameron West for receiving a Supervising Fire Officer Designation from the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy.
Finance Director Peter Anjewierden is scheduled to provide a declaration stating that the FY2027 tentative budget includes a proposed property tax increase. Anjewierden will also present the property tax impact schedule.
The council will consider several resolutions during the meeting:
Resolution 26-08, which declares the city's intent to increase property tax revenue for fiscal year 20 026-2027 and sets forth estimated amounts and reasons for the increase.
Resolution 26-09, regarding the adoption of the FY2027 tentative budget and property tax impact schedule.
Resolution 26-10, which acknowledges the city's desire to be transparent about the intent to increase property taxes in compliance with Utah Code Annotated.
The council will also set dates for upcoming public hearings. A hearing to consider comments on the proposed FY2027 interim budget is tentatively set for June 16, 2026, at 6 p.m., while a hearing to consider comments on a proposed property tax increase is scheduled for August 4, 2026, at 6 p.m.
