A 13-year-old girl from Utah died after falling from a narrow trail in Zion National Park. The incident occurred Monday evening on the Angel's Landing Trail while the girl was hiking with her family, according to Zion park ranger John Marciano.
The trail was closed to allow for an investigation into the fall. The path ascends approximately 1,500 feet above the red-rock cliffs of the southern Utah park. Hikers below quickly discovered the girl's body.
Marciano stated that weather conditions were fair and the trail was not icy. While safety warnings are posted at the location, the trail has seen approximately one death each of the last two years.
John Marciano described the event as a tragedy that affects everyone at the park. The girl's name and hometown were not immediately released.
