Provo City School District introduced the ProvoREADS Read Across the World initiative to foster a district-wide commitment to literacy. The program operates under the goal of ensuring every child reads every day to help them discover new perspectives and build knowledge.
The theme for this year, Read Across the World, utilizes monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey. Students were encouraged to explore new genres, establish reading habits, and participate in monthly Family Reading Challenges. Schools aimed to bring these themes to life through activities, celebrations, and read-alouds.
In August, the initiative featured the theme Pack Your Bags, which focused on preparing for reading adventures by establishing consistent routines. The August Family Reading Challenge encouraged participants to read in a new location, such as a park or a porch.
The district emphasized that building strong readers requires a community-wide culture of literacy involving teachers, parents, and community members. The initiative sought to make reading visible in various settings, including homes, libraries, and businesses.
