The Pleasant Grove Historic Preservation Commission met at the Old Town Hall on July 16, 2026, to review subcommittee reports and plan upcoming community events. According to meeting minutes published July 30, the commission discussed grant applications, walking tours, and potential updates to organizational bylaws.
During the meeting, the commission received a report regarding a 2026 SHPO grant application. If the commission is selected as a recipient in August, work would be scheduled to begin on July 1, 2027, and conclude by December 31, 2027. This would require requesting matching funds from the city before the February 2027 budget retreat.
Community outreach plans include a Main Street walking tour scheduled for July 20 at the Downtown Park Pavilion. A second walking tour of 200 South is planned for August 17 at the southwest corner of Downtown Park. Additionally, a fall lecture titled Strange-but-True Stories from PG History is planned for October.
The commission is also preparing for several upcoming dates. The Heritage Festival is scheduled for September 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Downtown Park. The Christmas at the Old Town Hall event is scheduled for December 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Regarding organizational governance, the commission discussed adding an attendance component to its bylaws. The proposed policy would require members to assist with at least one event during a 12-month period. The commission intends to vote on the wording for this policy at the August meeting before taking it to the city council for ratification.
The next meeting for the Pleasant Grove Historic Preservation Commission is scheduled for August 20 at 7 p.m. at the Old Town Hall.
