Applications for the Ogden's Citizenship PATH pilot program are scheduled to open on November 1, 2026. According to a notice on the city's website, the program is designed to aid qualified residents of Weber County in becoming naturalized U.S. citizens by removing barriers to obtaining citizenship status.
Participants in the program will engage in a comprehensive Citizenship Preparation class. The Weber County Library System is set to host this class and provide study materials. Additionally, Catholic Community Services will assist participants with completing the N-400 form, and grant funds will be available to cover the cost of the N-400 Citizenship Application.
Other components of the program include civic duty education where local and state elected leaders speak about civic duties. Participants may also attend a voting experience to learn about Utah voting laws and registration, a safety night with police and fire chiefs, and a judges night to learn about jury duty. The My Hometown literacy program will also provide volunteers to read with children during the program.
To apply, participants must meet U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) eligibility requirements. Specific requirements include being at least 18 years of age at the time of application, having been a lawful permanent resident for three or five years depending on the category, and demonstrating continuous residence and physical presence in the United States. Applicants must also be able to read, write, and speak basic English, demonstrate good moral character, show knowledge of U.S. history and government, demonstrate loyalty to the principles of the U.S. constitution, and be willing to take the Oath of Allegiance.
Participants must also fulfill class expectations, which include attending at least 75% of classes and activities, completing 40 hours of civic community service, and completing all USCIS documents by the end of the class term.
Applicants must reside in Ogden City or a surrounding community. While priority is given to Ogden City residents, a limited number of spots will be available to residents of surrounding communities on a first-come, first-served basis.
